In the film, Mr. Holland’s Opus, Mr. Hoilland takes the sheet music away from his frustrated clarinet student and tells her to play from the heart, to “play the sunset.” David Baroni borrows from that imagery in this unique and fresh collection of original jazz pieces. Baroni, known for his intuitive and sparkling keyboard playing, also plays bass and guitar in this stellar project. From the opening drum fill of “Someday” (with it’s unique vocal scatting) through the mysterious and funky “Rain Dance,” to the poignant title song “Playing The Sunset” and taking “The Journey” to a good land, this project will inspire, soothe, excite, and captivate you.
Stomp your feet in the Mississippi mud as you listen to the infectious “Got The Joy.” David ends this album with a stunning musical tribute to his older brother and musical mentor Neil Baroni, who passed away in 2006.
Most of these songs were spontaneously composed, David lets the music take him on the journey with some surprising twists and turns. Join David Baroni on this musical adventure; you will be glad you did!
